2020 International Wild Birds Photography Competition

 

A sky without the bird, a narrower world. Nature breeds birds in thousands of postures. Bird resources are precious natural treasures on earth.

On the occasion of the 6·17 Ai-Yakang World Bird Lovers Festival, guided by China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation and organized by China Green Development Foundation for Bird Biodiversity Conservation Research Institute, the 6·17 Ai-Yakang World Bird Lovers Festival 2020 International Wild Birds Photography Competition was officially launched.

This competition has been certified by the Global Photographic Union(GPU). All rules and regulations of the competition will follow international rules and regulations. The acceptances in this competition can be recorded pointswhich could be used to apply for distinctions of  the Global Photographic Union(GPU). The competition will adopt the international general photography competition rules and all wild birds works took by photographers from China and around the world are all welcome to participate.

Ⅰ. Works accepted

The competition is collecting entries on any natural bird subject. Birds with artificial elements are not accepted for this category. The works shall not contain any artificial elements such as roads, houses, fences, electric wires, etc. Pictures containing nests, nestlings and bread worms are not acceptable.

The works accepted by this competition includes one category and two sections.

Category: Natural works. It does not accept any bird photos with any other foreign elements including but not limited to road, houses, fences, and wires, nor does it accept photos with bird nest, chicks, and bread-worms.

    Sections

 Section 1: Wonderful Moment (natural works). This includes works that reflect the themes of wonderful moments, stories, relationships, humor, and others.

 Section 2: Birds and Environment (natural works). This includes works that reflect the relationship between wild birds and the ecological environment as well as that between birds and other animals.

II. Awards

1) This competition has two directories, namely Wonderful Moment (natural works) and Birds and Environment (natural works). Prizes will be given to 2 Gold, 2 Silver, 2 Bronze, 6 Best, 20 Outstanding and 200 Finalists.

The photographer who gets the highest scores in total will be awarded as Master of 2020 International Wild Birds Photography.

Scores will be calculated as 6 points for Gold, 5 for Silver, 4 for Bronze, 3 for Best, 2 for Outstanding and 1 for Finalists.

2) Prizes

A. Wonderful Moment (natural works)

1 for GPU Gold Medal: US$10,000.00 with Gold Medal, Trophy and Honor Certificate.

1 for GPU Silver Medal: US$5,000.00 with Silver Medal, Trophy and Honor Certificate.

1 for GPU Bronze Medal: US$2,000.00 with Bronze Medal, Trophy and Honor Certificate.

3 for Judges' Choice: US$1,000.00 with Trophy and Honor Certificate.

10 GPU HM for Outstanding: US$500.00 with Trophy and Honor Certificate.

100 for Finalists: Honor Certificates.

B. Birds and Environment (natural works)

1 for GPU Gold Medal: US$10,000.00 with Gold Medal, Trophy and Honor Certificate.

1 for GPU Silver Medal: US$5,000.00 with Silver Medal, Trophy and Honor Certificate.

1 for GPU Bronze Medal: US$2,000.00 with Bronze Medal, Trophy and Honor Certificate.

3 for Judges' Choice: US$1,000.00 with Trophy and Honor Certificate.

10 GPU HM for Outstanding: US$500.00 with Trophy and Honor Certificate.

100 for Finalists: Honor Certificates.

C. Special Award will go to the winner of the Master of 2020 International Wild Birds Photography, who will get US$20,000.00 with Trophy for Master of 2020 International Wild Birds Photography and Honor Certificate.

III. Requirements on Works Submitted

The competition only accepts works submitted in digital photos and

1) Works: all digital photos shall be submitted to the email shown on the page of “I want to participate” provided the website.

2)Format and Size: JPG only.

a. Maximum 1920 pixels allowed for horizontal, vertical and long edges.

b. 300 dpi.

c. Maximum 3MB.

3) When uploading the works for the competition, participants should also upload the original document (not JPG format), that is, the document that comes directly out from the digital camera, with camera specification, shooting time and relevant parameters but without being edited in any aspects.

4) Assessment: All referees of this competition will be viewing works from all participants through the big screen with the projector in the venues designated by the organizer. The digital projector has a resolution of 1920x1080 and an RGB color space, ensuring that all works will be displayed at the optimum resolution.

5) Color space: It is suggested that all participants set the color space at sRGB before saving the works in JPG so that it will fully present the best quality and color when displayed and viewed by the referee.

IV. Competition Rules

This competition will follow the international practices and regulations in collecting and judging. All works participating must comply with national laws and regulations. And the original works, filming and post-production work must all be completed by the author himself and copyrighted.

This competition is for a global draft. The organizer and the referee reserve the right, in their reasonable judgment, to cancel works that do not meet the rules and conditions for participation.    

V. Participating Conditions

1) participant in each section can cast a maximum of 10 works;

2) Each work must have a title. The title of the work needs to be indicated in English (translated by the sponsor); No punctuation marks such as !@#$^&*()|+:"<>? are allowed;

3) The title shall be not more than 35 characters including spaces.

4) Works of similar style and subject matter can not be submitted in both directories.

5) Works in each section will be viewed and scored by three judges.

6) All participants must own the copyright to their works, and the organizers of this contest shall not be liable for breach of contract or copyright abuse.

7) All works must be completed by the participants only through the traditional photosensitive film or digital photosensitive elements. The submission of works means that the participants guarantee that the works submitted are original, and the sponsor has the right to use the works free of charge and can reuse these images for promoting, publishing and exhibiting purposes that are related to the competition, which includes the use of low-resolution images on the relevant websites.

8) Focused on the subject matter of the works, participants are allowed to modify their works electronically or otherwise (for example, post-processing images using image processing software such as Photoshop or Lightroom is accepted), but they shall all comply with the competition rules, i.e. participants can only crop the original image and adjust technical indicators such as exposure, color, saturation, sharpness, etc., but the original pixels in the screen cannot be modified. The organizer will take good care of the works, but will not be liable for damage or theft or loss of works during transportation or transmission.

9) Each contestant can submit 10 photos at most in each section and no works will be accepted after the deadline.

10) participants and keen photographers will be welcomed to be presented when the referees are reviewing and scoring the works. However, the results from the referees will be final.

11) The referee committee reserves the right to decide the directories that work belong to.

12) The referee committee reserves the right to interpret the competition rules.

VI. Time, Submission Page and Payment for Participation

1) Time for submitting works: Feb. 1, 2020, to April 30, 2020 (GMT+8);

2) Submission Page: please fill in all relevant information and submit all works on the “I want to participate” page.

3) In order to comply with international competition rules and ensure that the works submitted are of good quality, this competition will charge participating fees from all participants: 10 photos maximum for each section and 20 photos maximum for one participant. RMB20.00/photo will be charged. Series or profiles will not be accepted.

VII. Others

1) Award Ceremony for this competition will be held in the hometown of the panda, Ya’an, Sichuan, China on June 17, 2020.

2) All award winners are obliged to pay personal income taxes.
